Vertical Gear and Peg Construction Set JBRIX
Note: base plate sold separately
Encourage hands-on discovery, problem-solving and creative construction with the Vertical Gear and Peg Construction Set, a versatile building resource designed for wall-based and vertical construction activities. Featuring 1,015 pieces, including gears and colourful pegs, this engaging system allows children and learners to explore mechanical movement, cause and effect, spatial reasoning and early STEM concepts through practical experimentation.
Designed to build on a compatible DUPLO®-size MagicPlate or JBOARD building board (sold separately), the Vertical Gear and Peg Construction Set transforms a vertical surface into an interactive learning environment. Users can connect gears, observe how movement transfers through a connected system, and experiment with different arrangements to understand how individual components work together.
Unlike traditional construction toys used on a table or floor, vertical building encourages users to plan and manipulate structures in a different spatial orientation. This creates opportunities to practise visual planning, hand-eye coordination, fine motor control and sustained engagement while developing confidence through independent exploration.
The 900 pegs also support mosaic-style activities, allowing users to create patterns, pictures and designs alongside mechanical constructions.
Suitable for educational settings, allied health environments, occupational therapy activities and supported home learning, this construction resource offers flexible opportunities for structured tasks and open-ended play.
Whether used for individual exploration, guided learning or collaborative projects, the Vertical Gear and Peg Construction Set supports participation, creativity and practical skill development through meaningful hands-on experiences.
Benefits
-
Develops cause-and-effect understanding: Explore how turning one gear can transfer movement through a connected mechanical system.
-
Encourages fine motor development: Practise grasping, placing, connecting and adjusting individual components.
-
Supports visual-spatial reasoning: Experiment with gear placement, direction of movement, spacing and construction layouts.
-
Promotes problem-solving skills: Test different configurations, identify movement patterns and modify designs to achieve a desired result.
-
Builds early STEM understanding: Introduces mechanical principles, sequencing, engineering concepts and practical experimentation.
-
Encourages sustained engagement: Offers opportunities for focused, hands-on activities with clear visual feedback.
-
Supports creativity and self-expression: Use the pegs to create mosaics, patterns and pictures as well as functional gear systems.
-
Provides opportunities for independence: Enables users to select components, plan constructions and explore solutions at their own pace.
-
Facilitates collaborative participation: Supports shared projects, turn-taking, communication and group-based learning.
-
Extends learning possibilities: Combine compatible components with a vertical marble run for more complex construction activities.

Why Choose This Product?
The Vertical Gear and Peg Construction Set combines mechanical exploration, creative construction and practical learning in one versatile resource. Its large selection of pegs and gears provides flexibility for users to create simple arrangements or experiment with more complex connected systems.
For educators and allied health professionals, it offers a practical way to introduce STEM concepts while creating opportunities to practise coordination, planning, problem-solving and task engagement. For families and support workers, it provides a hands-on activity that can be adapted to different interests, abilities and levels of assistance.
The vertical format adds another dimension to construction activities, while the mosaic capability encourages creative expression beyond mechanical building. Compatibility with selected vertical building systems also creates opportunities to expand projects and introduce additional movement-based challenges.
For settings focused on participation, skill development and meaningful engagement, the Vertical Gear and Peg Construction Set is a flexible addition to an educational or therapeutic activity collection.
